Tejaswini Kumar

A botanical sculptor whose work reimagines the language of flowers and branches through the medium of clay. Her contemporary botanical works transcend traditional forms, transforming petals, stems, and branches into deeply expressive studies of individuality and grace. Every element — from bark to the fine veins of petals, from a delicate bud to unfurling leaves — is sculpted in cold porcelain clay and painted by hand using oil colors.

A quieter way of describing how the work is made.

The practice is slow and observational. Material decisions stay close to the feeling of touch, and the finished pieces retain evidence of the hand that made them.

01

Sculpting

Each petal, vein, and branch is formed by hand in cold porcelain clay, preserving the irregularity that makes the work feel observed rather than manufactured.

02

Painting

Oil color is built in measured layers so surface, depth, and shadow arrive slowly, closer to botanical study than decorative finish.

03

Composing

The final arrangement is assembled as a quiet composition, balancing fragility, gesture, and negative space.

“The work is less about replication than about holding the moment when a natural form becomes intimate.”
